Kim Clijsters returned to the grand slam tournament with a victory. The former world No.1 tennis player advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open after defeating Viktoriya Kutuzova.
U.S. Open is the third tournament Clijsters after repose of the world tennis for two years. Belgian tennis player decided absences while after giving birth to her first child.
This is also the first match at Flushing Meadows Clijsters beat Mary Piercey since the 2005 U.S. Open final. Clijsters now seemed still eager to get back into top tennis player.
This was demonstrated when overcoming Kutuzova Clijsters 6-1 6-1 in the first round of U.S. Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Monday (31/8/2009). He only needs 58 minutes to overcome his opponent from the Ukraine.
"This is very good to be back here in the center court and opened the tournament. I do not get this as defending champion years ago," said Clijsters as reported by AFP.
26-year-old tennis player was also pleased with its performance. "I'm glad I won the match with two sets without spending a lot of energy. This is more than usual," he said.
This is the sixth victory from defeat twice since Clijsters decided comeback. Clijsters in the second round will face the winner between Marion Bartoli with Rossana De Los Rios.
